Sea turtle swimming off Cocoa Beach Florida”

Few moments compare to seeing a sea turtle glide onto the sand under a starry sky to lay her eggs — or watching tiny hatchlings make their brave journey to the ocean. From May through October, the Space Coast becomes one of the most important sea turtle nesting areas in the world. 🌊💫

Visitors can respectfully observe guided walks, hatchling releases, or even spot fresh turtle tracks on early-morning beach strolls.

📍 Best Spots to Experience Sea Turtles on the Space Coast:

  • Melbourne Beach & Indialantic
These beaches are nesting hot spots for loggerheads and green turtles. Visit early in the morning to see fresh tracks (look but don’t touch!).

  • Sebastian Inlet State Park (Nighttime Turtle Walks)
Guided nighttime walks during nesting season let families see turtles safely and up-close as they lay eggs.

  • Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge (South Melbourne Beach)
A globally significant nesting area and a must-visit for turtle lovers. Visit the Barrier Island Center for exhibits, guided tours, and live updates on nesting activity.

  • Cocoa Beach & Satellite Beach
Calm stretches of sand here are often dotted with nests — look for marked areas, especially from June to August.

🌿 Tips for a Respectful Turtle Experience:

  • Visit May–October, especially June–August for nesting and July–September for hatching.

  • Never use flashlights or phone lights on the beach at night — they can disorient hatchlings.

  • Observe from a distance and stay below the dune line.

  • Join a guided turtle walk through the Barrier Island Center or Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Preservation Society.

  • Look for fresh tracks at sunrise — it’s nature’s artwork in the sand.

🌊 Tips for Spotting Dolphins:

  • Look for ripples or splashes breaking the surface.

  • Visit on clear, calm mornings when the water reflects their movements.

  • Bring binoculars or a camera with zoom to capture the moment.

  • Remember to observe respectfully — enjoy the view but don’t approach them by boat or jet ski.
